Taylor Swift plans to keep her fans well fed for the rest of time. During a recent show at the SoFi Stadium in California, the pop superstar explained that in order to stay connected with listeners and express herself, she planned to make “as many albums as humanly possible.”
The revelation — which surely drew cheers as rapturous as the seismic activity her Seattle show caused — came as Swift looked back on the last few years of her career, when the COVID-19 pandemic locked everyone in their houses and the entertainment industry went on pause. As she explained, she became even more prolific as a songwriter during this period, since she wasn’t able to connect with her fans in real life.
“The reason we didn’t tour for five years — that was not a normal or scheduled thing. We had a global pandemic; we had much more important things that we had to worry about,” Swift said. “But I’ve been playing shows sort of as a coping mechanism my whole life, since I was about 12 years old. I go through this process where I feel things, I write a song about that thing, I show it to you and I go, ‘Do you like it? Did you ever feel this way too?’”

Swift continued, “And so when you guys are at at a show, if you even nod your head or make eye contact with me or sing the words to a song during a show, that to me validates that emotion and makes me feel like I wasn’t alone in feeling it. It’s sort of my coping process in life — so all of a sudden that was gone.”
“And so I decided,” the artist said, “in order to keep that connection going, if I couldn’t play live shows with you, I was going to make and release as many albums as humanly possible.”
As such, Swift released two albums (folklore and evermore) in 2020 alone before following them up with Midnights last year. It’d be understandable if another project took a bit of time — she’s been on tour since March, with international and stateside dates extending well into 2024. Hopefully, though, the artist keeps that prolific promise, even if the three-plus hour shows of “The Eras Tour” offer more human connection than most acts could ever dream of.
