Danish audio company AIAIAI has expanded its popular TMA-2 DJ headphones lineup with the introduction of the TMA-2 DJ XE, a “more versatile, cross-functional, and lightweight” model according to the brand’s founder Frederik Jørgensen.
Like its predecessor, the XE version retains the brand’s signature modular design and allows users to replace individual parts of the headphones – from the earpads to the speaker units, components are fully customizable and users can adapt their headphones to suit their needs for a more a cost-efficient and sustainable approach to tech. In addition to this, the speaker units are made with recycled plastics (around 30%), the diaphragms from bio-cellulose, and the ear-cushions use vegan leather. AIAIAI also offers a lifetime trade-in service program in which users can send in their old or broken parts for future credit, further reinforcing the brand’s sustainability mission.
Weighing in at 168 grams, the TMA-2 DJ XE features custom-built 40mm diaphragms that have been tuned to produce a balanced sound and to perform at high volume. The bio-cellulose material used to create the diaphragms was chosen specifically for this purpose: it is both stiffer and lighter than a typical PET unit, causing less vibration and resulting in lesser distortion.
AIAIAI’s TMA-2 DJ XE is available now via the brand’s website priced at £120 GBP / $140 USD.
