The 2023 Emmy nominations are being announced on the eve of a potential actor’s strike, with writers already on the picket line. But that won’t stop the Television Academy from announcing the nominees for this year’s awards… even if the actual awards ceremony might not happen until January.
In the world of comedy, award-winning titan Ted Lasso will be going up against the final season of Barry, the very strong sophomore season of Abbott Elementary, and The Bear, which in terms of the Emmys might be a freshman contender, but could be a Michael Jordon-ish kind of freshman contender. (Michael Jordan played for the Bulls and The Bear is set in Chicago, nailed that reference.)
Meanwhile, in the drama category, HBO is poised to have a potentially very good morning, as House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, and some show called Succession all have viable chances of a nomination. Plus, Disney+ has two different Star Wars series in the mix with Andor and The Mandalorian Season 3, and Better Call Saul has its very last chance to win just one Emmy, after 46 nominations over its six-season run.

Lots of excitement might also come in the Limited Series category, where favorites like Fleishman Is in Trouble, Beef, Daisy Jones & the Six, and A Small Light all stand a chance at recognition. And as the Emmys encompass literally over 100 categories, there’s honestly no telling what kind of surprises might await us when the full list is announced.
The nominations announcement for the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards can be streamed below via YouTube at the link below, beginning at 11:30 AM ET/8:30 AM PT. This post will be updated live as the nominations progress.
The awards themselves are currently scheduled for September 18th, 2023 at 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT on Fox, but may be postponed if SAG strikes. No host has been announced yet for the ceremony.
