One of Six Porsche Carrera GT Zagato’s is Up for Auction

One of Six Porsche Carrera GT Zagato's is Up for Auction

In 2004, Porsche introduced a limited-production supercar, the Carrera GT, with only 1,270 total models, making it a highly sought-after collector’s vehicle.

That being said, there’s a version of the vehicle that is drastically more scarce, the Porsche Carrera GT Zagato (GTZ), an edition of six including its prototype, with Chassis #4 recently being listed for auction by DK Engineering.

For those unfamiliar, Zagato originated as a coachbuilding firm outside of Milan, Italy and 104 years later remains owned by the founding family, making it one of the last independent Italian design houses. Known for its advanced design and innovative use of lightweight materials, Zagato has worked closely with names like Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini and eventually Porsche in 1957.

As for the GTZ, it represents one of five production vehicles, not counting the #00 prototype built in 2013. In the case of Chassis #4, it started off as a new Carrera GT ordered to McKenna Porsche of Los Angeles, was exported to the UK in 2011 and then sent to Italy in 2018 where it underwent its conversion to a GTZ.

Included in the conversion was a change of paint to a dark metallic green, graphite wheels, gloss black brake calipers and a full bespoke Zagato interior — the sole GTZ to have such an interior. Details modified as part of the retrim included the central tunnel and center console, gearstick gaiter, lower dashboard, armrests, door cards, A-pillar, sun visors and most notably the Z embossed seats.

The total cost of the conversion is said to have been 400,000 Euros, which is equivalent to just over 441,000 USD today. At the time of writing, the reserve price for the auction has not been shared but DK Engineering has published an inquiry form for those interested in participating.
