Residents count losses as flood ravages Kaduna communities
A don, Prof. Leke Oduwaye, on Monday urged Lagos State Government to prosecute owners of buildings blocking drainage right-of -way to guard against flooding.

Residents in some Kaduna communities have continued to count their losses as their homes were overtaken on Saturday over by flood.

The constant rainfalls have made several communities in Kaduna metropolis and environs suffer damages following a heavy downpour that resulted in flooding which submerged some houses, farmlands and destroyed properties.

Some of the affected communities include Abubakar Kigo road, Barnawa, Kudenda, Ungwar Dosa, Angwar Rimi, Malali areas among others.

As a result of the flood and damages, many residents were assisted out of their homes through the intervention of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA).

Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) intervention, came in handy for those whose houses were overtaken by the flood, while others were seen evacuating their properties out of their flooded houses.

It could be recalled that the incident of flooding experienced by many would be termed as a yearly occurrence whenever the raining season starts.

Independent gathered that relevant bodies including KADSEMA had issued warnings about the pending heavy rainfalls that might result in flooding and urged those whose houses are within the water banks to relocate accordingly to a safer location.

At Kigo Road in Kaduna North, officials of Red cross, Fire Services, KASTLEA were seen on ground rendering assistance to affected persons.

In Malali GRA Area, close to Ideal Hostel, where houses belonging to prominent residents are situated, newsmen witnessed houses submerged in water as a result of the flood.

One of the victims who spoke to newsmen lamented that he has to condemn the ground floor of his building as the place is already filled with water.

He regretted erecting his building in such an area where he and his family has had to face the challenges of dealing with a flooded house on yearly basis.

He disclosed that since 3am, they have had to stay awake to battle the flooding issue.

Some of the residents, seen trying to salvage what was remaining of their properties, also called on the government to help cushion the effect of their losses as a result of the flood.
