Apple Is Reportedly Building a Temperature Sensor for AirPods

Apple is reportedly working on its next pair of AirPods, which will feature a built-in temperature sensor.

According to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, the company is aiming to expand on its health offerings in future hardware, one of which is a sensor that will gauge your body’s temperature. The same feature is already included in Apple’s Watch Series 8 and Watch Ultra, which many users rely on to track their workouts.

Still, AirPod users often wear their headphones while exercising. Gurman notes that a temperature reading via the ear canal is more accurate than the wrist.

Another feature Apple reportedly has in the works is the ability for the AirPods Pro to function as a hearing aid. The company has reportedly brought on engineers that have worked on traditional hearing aids to build the headphones’ capabilities.

It seems that regardless of if the alleged features pan out, users will have to wait a while to access them, with Gurman describing the two features as potentially “years away.”

In other tech news, ByteDance is working on “Ripple,” an AI-powered music creation app.
