Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette has been recognized by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Education for its efforts to promote breastfeeding and provide healthier food and beverage options.
Good Samaritan was one of 45 hospitals in Colorado to be recognized. The hospital was recognized at the gold level for the Colorado Healthy Hospital Compact, an initiative to promote healthy eating and active living to reduce rates of death from diseases or other chronic illnesses.
“Each year we have made small changes to leave a large, lasting impact on our caregivers, patients and the community,” Director of Food and Nutrition Services DeNae Alva said.
Good Samaritan also received the Celebrate 6 Award of Breastfeeding Excellence, by implementing at least six of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative’s ten steps to successful breastfeeding. Good Samaritan has been a designated baby friendly hospital since 2004.
