Real Madrid Completes Transfer For Jude Bellingham

Real Madrid has completed the signing of Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, with the England midfielder agreeing a six-year contract at the Bernabéu.

Bellingham’s former club, Dortmund — who Bellingham signed for when he was 17 — confirmed in a statement last week that Madrid had agreed to pay an initial £88.5m GBP for the 19-year-old and Real Madrid confirmed on Wednesday that the deal was complete.

“Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have agreed on the transfer of the player Jude Bellingham, who will remain linked to our club for the next six seasons,” Real Madrid said in a statement. “Tomorrow [June 15], the presentation ceremony for Jude Bellingham as a new Real Madrid player will take place. After, Jude Bellingham will appear before the media.”

As one of England’s top performers at last year’s World Cup, Bellingham was named the Bundesliga’s player of the season as Dortmund missed out on a first league title in 11 years on the final day. The initial fee also means that he becomes the second-most expensive English footballer after Jack Grealish, who signed for Manchester City for a £100m GBP fee in 2021.

Bellingham is also Real Madrid’s second-most expensive signing in history, after Eden Hazard’s move from Chelsea in 2019, and the third-most expensive teenager in history.

Additionally, Bellingham becomes just the seventh British player to sign for Real Madrid after Laurie Cunningham, Steve McManaman, David Beckham, Michael Owen, Jonathan Woodgate, and Gareth Bale.

Commenting on his move to Real Madrid, Bellingham said: “It is the proudest day of my life to join the greatest club in the history of the game. I will give absolutely everything I have to help this team win. Thank you for the amazing welcome. HALA MADRID!”
