Hot 97 has been platforming contemporary music since it aired its first episode over 80 years ago. In time, the New York station carved out a space specifically in hip-hop and will now be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the influential genre.
A concert curated by DJ Funk Flex and hosted by Hot 97 will bring together some of the biggest names in hip-hop for a one-day event. Wu-Tang Clan will be headlining the concert, alongside performances from Mary J Blige, EPMD, Tyrese and Sean Paul.
Mariah Carey and Maxwell will serve as “special guests” at the event, though it’s not clear if they’re set to perform.
The concert will take place at Madison Square Garden on September 15. A general sale for tickets will open up later this week on Friday, June 16.
