Afro Nation Miami Celebrated The African Diaspora In A Major Way
Afro Nation, the global celebration of African music and culture, invaded the city of Miami over the Memorial Day weekend (May 27-28). Fans of Afrobeats, Dancehall, Amapiano and the overall African diaspora flocked to the 305 in anticipation to see headliners Burna Boy, Wizkid and more. The star-studded lineup also included Starboy, Asake, Mavado, CKay, Black Sherif, Musa Keys, BNXN, Rema, Fireboy DML, Sech, and Libianca, amongst others.
Held at LoanDepot Park, Burna Boy headlined Saturday as Wizkid shut it down on Sunday evening. The energy of the drums, pianos, and strings pulled the entire stadium to their feet as Burna and Wiz performed songs from their years-long discographies, as well as newer hits. Burna gave a live performance of “Last Last,” as Wiz set the tone with his Grammy-nominated song “Essence” featuring Tems. The Nigerian superstar also saw a guest appearance from rising star BNXN for their infectious collab, “Mood.”
Other rising stars who blazed the stage included Rema with his viral songs, “Calm Down” and “Woman,” and Fireboy DML with “Peru,” amongst other popular acts. To add to the eclectic sounds of Afro Nation Miami, an entire Amapiano stage saw performances from pillars of the genre including Major League Djz, TxC, Uncle Waffles, DBN Gogo, Focalistic and others. Leading Amapiano artist Pabi Cooper also made an appearance at the event.

Dancehall sensation Shenseea, also brought her Jamaican flare to the lineup on Sunday as she set it off with her bangers including, “Blessed,” “Cant Anymore,” “Curious,” and “Henkel Glue featuring Beenie Man, who she replaced at the festival.
