‘It would be a coup’ – Noel Whelan urges Leeds to sign 23-yr-old Bundesliga player

‘It would be a coup’ – Noel Whelan urges Leeds to sign 23-yr-old Bundesliga player

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has urged the club to sign Robin Koch this summer.

The Bundesliga defender will be available for a fee of around £10.6million and Whelan believes that it would be a coup for Leeds if they managed to sign him.

He said to Football Insider: “It would be a coup. We need defenders, there is no doubt about that. We do not know what is happening with the Ben White situation but it is better to have a backup plan and knowing where else to look so you can fill that void if Ben White does not sign for Leeds United. You need these players [like Koch] in reserve and need to have already held contract talks and agreed a fee so when it does happen you are ready to move straight away.”

The Whites could lose Ben White once the season is over and Bielsa needs to bring in another defender.

Koch has done well for Freiburg and he could prove to be a solid addition for Leeds.

The player has been linked with a move to the Premier League as well.

The 23-year-old needs to join a club where he can play regularly and Leeds would be ideal for him. Someone like Marcelo Bielsa could help him improve as a player as well.

It will be interesting to see if Leeds make their move for Koch this summer. They wanted to sign the player in January as per Football Insider.

Leeds are likely to secure promotion to the Premier League this summer and it will help them attract better players.

They might just be able to convince Koch to join them with a good financial package.

As for Freiburg, their asking price seems reasonable and Leeds should be able to afford the transfer.
