Joyner Lucas packs in passion for his “Fall Slowly” single featuring Ashanti, who stars as his love interest in the music video out Wednesday (Sept. 2).
But regardless of the artists’ undeniable chemistry (which fans questioned if it also presents itself off-screen with relationship rumors starting), the video shows there’s trouble in paradise. Physical and verbal arguments in public, Lucas’ arrest and Ashanti’s unanticipated pregnancy test result are juxtaposed with late-night kisses and cuddles and naps on couches. And he raps about their tumultuous relationship right within the first verse: “‘Cause when we hurt each other we come back to help each other heal/ You say I’m crazy, but at least you know my love is real/ But s–t, you crazy too, and that’s why they say love is hell.”
“Fall Slowly” comes ahead of the two-time Grammy-nominated rapper’s new EP EVOLUTION, which will arrive on Friday, Sept. 18. The six-song project includes featured artists The Game and Rick Ross.
At the tail-end of the clip, Lucas spotlights the groundbreaking artists’ platform Tully, which he co-founded with manager and technology entrepreneur Dhruv Joshi, which will be available in October. Tully allows artists to succeed independently by providing them the tools they need, such as storage to create projects, access to others for collaborations, and security for contracts and team management as part of the tiered packages.
