Ed Sheeran Reveals He's Considering Switching Music Genres

After winning his copyright lawsuit, Ed Sheeran revealed that he might make a big change and start creating country music.

The singer-songwriter spoke with Billboard after rehearsing for his ACM Awards performances ahead of the May 11 show in Frisco, Texas.

“I talk about this to my wife all the time. I would love to transition into country,” Sheeran said of the possible genre change. “I love the culture of it, I just love the songwriting. It’s just like brilliant songs.”

Sheeran even lived in Nashville, Tennessee, at two points in his life, in 2013 and 2018, which influenced his love of the world of country music.

The English singer said, “It’s like a community. There’s not really a place in Europe where you could point and say, ‘That’s the home of songwriting.’ It’s not just for country music. Nashville is just a hub of incredible songwriters, incredible performers. And I really felt inspired just being there being around everyone.”

Sheeran also revealed that Taylor Swift really introduced him to country music when the two toured together years ago: “I’d never really listened to country music as a kid growing up. It was only being on Taylor’s Red tour and living in Nashville and her basically introducing me to that side of it.”

He added, “There’s a radio station in England called [CountryLine Radio] that me and my wife have on all day, every day in the kitchen.”

Based on Sheeran’s comments, his ACM Awards performance on May 11 might be the start of a new phase of his career in the genre of country music.
