Dillon Brooks Will Not Be Returning to the Memphis Grizzlies

Dillon Brooks Will Not Be Returning to the Memphis Grizzlies

With the first round of the 2022-23 NBA Playoffs having just wrapped up, the consequences of disappointing runs from several teams has already prompted some front office action. For the Memphis Grizzlies, coming in as the second seed and losing to a Los Angeles Lakers squad that struggled for a majority of the year was disheartening. While LeBron James and his recently-upgraded supporting cast are not to be underestimated, problems off of the court — particularly surrounding Dillon Brooks’ antics — had many calling for action.

Now, just days later, league sources have informed Shams Charania at The Athletic that the Memphis Grizzlies have taken action. Heading into the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, Brooks has been told by the franchise that “he will not be brought back under any circumstances.” Previously, the small forward called out James, sharing that he wouldn’t respect him until James scored 40 points against him — a total Brooks ended up losing by in the game six elimination match. In addition to this, Brooks was ejected in game three for landing a hit on James’ groin area. He’s kept relatively quiet since, declining the required media attendance for several games.

Moving forward, both the Grizzlies and Brooks — who have been together since his rookie season — reportedly exited their meeting in agreeance that it’s best for them to split ways at this time.
