In the week where new ideas surrounding design, construction and technology are debuted on the world stage, Maserati unveils its latest GranTurismo grand tourer innovations. The jewel in the brand’s automotive crown arrives at Milan’s Design Week festivities in the form of two one-offs and one special edition – including Maserati’s first all-electric ‘Folgore’ powered versions.
Honoring the GranTurismo’s decade-long evolution that has constantly encompassed its essential design pillars, each of the three original cars showcase a sophisticated combination of refined beauty with a forward-thinking technical anatomy. At the forefront of the masterpiece offering, Maserati issues the exclusive 300-piece GranTurismo Launch Edition PrimaSerie 75th Anniversary. Alongside a new 100% electric Folgore model in copper-tinted “Rame Folgore” and a bold Aqua “Blu Inchiostro,” the clean-lined anniversary edition comes in a second version containing an internal combustion engine.
The new-age GranTurismo is accompanied by two one-off car art pieces that are mastered by the brand’s head of design Klaus Busse. Taking its name from the distinctive prismatic orientation of color, the GranTurismo One-off Prisma displays 12 shades deriving from Maserati’s most iconic past cars and two more that look ahead to the future of the brand. Continuing to pay tribute to its heritage, the Prisma features 8,500 hand-applied letter embellishments that make up the various names and sought-after editions amongst the bursts of color.
The final design in the new line-up is titled the GranTurismo One-off Luce. From the “high frequency” engraving on its chrome body to the regenerated nylon ECONYL® interiors and full-electric Folgore engine, this sleek masterpiece weaves supreme car craftsmanship with progressive sustainability. As its intrinsic etching catches the light on the road – or in this case, the Milan showroom – the dynamic Luce provides an example of how Maserati are employing modern technology to encase its environmentally-friendly components, maintaining the GranTurismo’s timeless look.
Speaking on his designs, Klaus Busse shares, “GranTurismo Prisma is an ode to our 75-year heritage and to the know-how that has imbued all the cars Maserati has made over time. GranTurismo Luce is our future, looking ahead, in perfect balance with Prisma. The essence of each one depends on the other. In terms of innovation, Prisma expresses all the beauty and excellence of Italian craftsmanship, as well as mastery in painting and color; Luce reveals all the technology developed with Folgore, combining our forward-thinking attitude and Italian creativity.”
To celebrate the trifecta of futuristic GranTurismo designs, the Italian brand hosted a special event at its new Maserati store yesterday where Busse joined Hiroshi Fujiwara, David Beckham and other esteemed guests. Following the global preview at Milan Design Week, these works of art will travel across the world for a series of Maserati GranTurismo celebration events, giving car enthusiasts the chance to experience them up close and personal.
