The trailer for The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the prequel movie to The Hunger Games, has officially been released by Lionsgate.
Taking place 64 years before the start of the main series featuring Katniss Everdeen, the upcoming movie follows Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) and his mentee Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) who enters the games as tribute from the impoverished District 12.
The young Coriolanus is the last hope for his failing lineage who has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. While initially reluctant to mentor Lucy, Snow recognizes her charm and unique ability to shift both their fates. While engaged in a race for survival, we’ll see Snow battling his instincts for both good and evil — ultimately revealing whether he’ll decide to become a songbird or a snake.
Based on Suzanne Collins’ 2020 novel of the same name, the film is directed by Francis Lawrence with screenplay by Michael Lesslie and Michael Arndt. Other cast members include Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman, and Viola Davis.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will premiere in theaters on November 17.
