The 500,000th Mercedes-Benz G-Class Has Been Suited Up With Retro Flair

The 500,000th Mercedes-Benz G-Class Has Been Suited Up With Retro Flair

For 44 years, Mercedes-Benz has been pumping out new renditions of its beloved G-Wagon, and this year it reached an impressive milestone by producing its 500,000th unit. And to celebrate this momentous achievement, the German car manufacturer opted to give this iteration a special makeover that nods to the iconic vehicle’s genesis.

Design inspiration for this installment comes from the 1986 280 GE, hence why the car has been wrapped with an “Agave Green” paint job to mimic one of the car’s earliest color palette offerings. Adjacent to that are solid black accents that disperse to components like the grille, bumpers, fender flares, door handles and rub strips. Stone guards are positioned over the headlights while the rims are fitted with a silver paint exterior, including the rear where a vintage vinyl cover shrouds its spare tire. Mercedes-Benz implemented a bright amber plastic over the turn signals to further echo its throwback aesthetic. Vintage-inspired elements are also found on the inside as the seats have been adorned with a checkered fabric much like its ‘86 muse. A badge calling out that this is the 500,000th model also rests on the grab handle. Additionally, the license plates on both the front and back spell out “500,000” to further nod to its production lifespan.
