Jeremy Renner speaks with Diane Sawyer in his first post, a near-fatal snowplow accident interview, detailing his brutal injuries and exactly what happened.
Sitting down with Sawyer, audiences can see the Marvel star starts out the interview by welcoming Sawyer into his home and telling her that he “just got upright yesterday.” At the time of the interview, it had only been 10 weeks since he was run over by his 14,000 lbs snow plow. Renner recalls the incident and how he tried to get back in the driver’s seat of the rolling vehicle, as it moved towards hitting his nephew. The accident occurred at his Nevada property, leaving him with 30 broken bones, including eight ribs, his right shoulder and knee, as well as a pierced liver and a collapsed lung.
At first, Renner was skeptical as to how he would recover. Understanding he survived an ordeal, he did question what his life and body would look like post-recovery, “Am I just going to be like a spine and a brain like a science experiment?” He revealed to Sawyer that he had written goodbye notes to his family members in the hospital and said that there were times when he thought he wouldn’t make it. Despite the horrific accident, Renner seems to be in great spirits in his recovery, “I’ve lost a lot of flesh and bone in this experience. But I’ve been refueled and refilled with love and titanium.” Watch the clips above and below.
