'Star Wars' Spinoff Series 'The Acolyte' To Hit Disney+ in 2024

During the Star Wars Celebration in London, Lucasfilm announced a bevy of exciting updates in the ever-expanding franchise’s world. Among them, the production imprint revealed a first look at The Acolyte to in-person attendees (unfortunately, it is not yet online) along with a release date window of sometime in 2024.

First announced in 2020 at Disney’s Investor Day, the series will take place in the final days of the High Republic, when the Sith were believed to have been exterminated and the Jedi were operating at their strongest. Notably, the series is set a century prior to the happenings of Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, marking the farthest back in time that any live-action Star Wars project has taken place.

Lee Jung-jae will star across Amandla Stenberg, who takes the female lead in the project, with Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson and Carrie-Anne Moss also appearing on the cast list. Meanwhile, Leslye Headland, co-creator of Russian Doll, is the showrunner on the series.

According to Engadget, the first look included scenes featuring a Jedi temple, battles with Moss, a golden lightsaber and footage of Jedis igniting their weapons together. A tagline stated, “This is about power and who is allowed to use it.”

Stay tuned for more information on Lucasflim forthcoming series, The Acolyte.
