Ferrari has unveiled its latest, utterly beautiful creation, the Roma Spider.
Based on the Roma Coupé that arrived in 2019, the new Spider variation maintains a 2+2 seating configuration, a low, long, swooping body, and now incorporates an “innovative” soft-top that means you can enjoy your Italian grand tourer with the wind in your hair.
Like its older brother, the Spider packs a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 612 HP and 561 pound-feet of torque, sending all this power to the rear wheels via a dual-clutch eight-speed paddle-shift-operated gearbox, derived from the SF90 Stradale. Sound comes courtesy of a rear silencer-deleted, by-pass valve-controlled exhaust system, allowing the V8 to sing into the hills as you rev through the 7,500 RPM redline, and it won’t be obstructed by the new, patented wind deflector that is integrated into the rear seat backrest.
Instead, dropping the roof in just 13.5 seconds will allow you to connect with the car in more auditory ways. Furthermore, the roof has been designed to take up less space in the boot, ensuring that the Roma Spider can be used like the thoroughbred GT it was born to be.
Elsewhere, you might expect the car to have gained weight thanks to the addition of mechanisms. However, Ferrari has used its all-aluminum chassis to create a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio, meaning this should still be a dynamic and engaging driving experience.
Hitting 62 MPH in just 3.4 seconds and going on to 198 MPH, the new Ferrari Roma Spider sits as the super GT car set for everyday use. No price has been confirmed, but expect it to cost a fair slice more than the Coupé’s starting price of $268,895 USD.
