Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin has broken out of the hit Netflix sci-fi series to play a lead role in the upcoming Peacock biopic of LeBron James.
Titled Shooting Stars, McLaughlin is set to play Dru Joyce III, James’ best friend and the son of the boy’s basketball coach at his high school in Akron. James has often spoken about the close bond he has with his high school friends and said that their friendship helped sustain them through a failed national championship tournament and winning a title by the end of high school. Not much is known about the upcoming biopic, but it is expected to chronicle James’ early basketball career and the influence high school basketball has had on his NBA journey.
McLaughlin is currently one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood, set to star in Lee Daniels’ next thriller for Netflix, Demon House and in Jeymes Samuel’s The Book of Clarence alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and James McAvoy. The upcoming Peacock biopic on LeBron James hits the streamer on June 2 of this year.
In other entertainment news, HBO’s Barry is ending with season four.
