Daniel Arsham Teams Up With Hublot to Build a Sundial Made of Snow and Ice at the Matterhorn

A savant at crafting art sculptures of coveted cars, Pokémon characters and human statues that are reimagined with eroded elements, Daniel Arsham has a plethora of projects lined up for 2023. One of the artist’s collaborative efforts involves a partnership with Hublot, and one of their first initiatives is based across the pond in Zermatt, Switzerland where has has crafted a sundial installation that’s made from snow and ice.

Titled “Light & Time,” the horological piece is designed to converge the concepts of timekeeping and land art. It sits at the base of the Matterhorn and measures out to 20 meters wide. The flat plate is sculpted out of snow and features a set of six arches around the edges while a pure white obelisk stands tall in the center. Inside the aforementioned arches, you’ll find icy blocks that have Arsham chiseled together to add more flair to the Swiss Alps installation.

Per the New York-based artist’s Instagram post below, this is one of many projects that he and the Swiss watch manufacturer have planned to roll out in the coming months, so expect to learn more about this partnership soon.

In case you missed it, Daniel Arsham’s eroded car sculptures will be on view at LA’s Petersen Automotive Museum.
