A few months after Takeoff‘s death, Quavo continues to pay tribute to his late nephew and Migos bandmate. The new track, “Greatness,” comes just a month after the emotional track, “Without You.”
Quavo took to Instagram to announce the new song just hours before its release. He unveils the official cover art as well as a link to the accompanying video, featuring the caption, “Countdown to Greatness” and the tag “ForTake.” The album art shows Quavo sitting in front of a collection of platinum plaques. The visuals show home footage of Quavo playing basketball with his celebrity friends while he flaunts his iced-out jewelry and luxury car collection. While he is obviously proud of his accomplishments and his amassed wealth, he raps about how he would give it all away to have Takeoff back, “just to see my dawg just one more time.”
He continues to rap about his grieving process, “Tryin’ to move forward, but I don’t got all the answers. ut I know I can’t look backward, that’s dangerous/I had to go read the bible and take a few pages.” Takeoff was fatally shot outside a Houston bowling alley after he attended a private event. He was 28 years old and was shot in the head and torso. Quavo was with him at the time.
