The Kano mobile courts have convicted 717 persons for violating the subsisting lockdown order in the state in the last 4 days.
Kano has 11 mobile courts that were inaugurated by Kano Chief Judge, Justice Nura Sagir to sit in various parts of the state to enforce the lock down order recently.
Baba Jibo Ibrahim, Spokesman, Kano State judiciary, told newsmen in Kano that from Sunday 3 May to Wednesday 6 May 2020, the 717 offenders were arraigned and convicted for violating the lock order, disclosing that there were those sentenced to rendering community services, payment od fines and those who received strokes of cane as punishment.
Ibrahim explained that “out of the 717 persons convicted are some Muslim clerics from Minjibir local government. The court ordered that they should go and sanitize the home of the district head of Minjibir and they were penalized to pay N10, 000:00 fine each.”
“The five vehicles that were arrested by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje at Kwanar Dawaki during the early stage of the commencement of the lock were convicted and ordered to pay N150, 000, 00 as fine each. Same with other hummer buses.”
He disclosed that a female offender who assaulted security operatives and judicial officers was equally convicted and sentenced to observe sanitation exercise at the Kano Central Correctional Facility from 8am to 4pm daily for two weeks.
Similarly, a fake police officer who was alleged to have battered a sergeant on duty have been handed over to Kano police command for further investigation.
The fake police ASP was approached during COVID-19 routine security patrol, and when quizzed, the convict introduced himself to be a serving policeman. But when further interrogated, it was discovered that he was a police constabulary.
The disappointing turn of event led to exchange of words, as the constabulary was said to have launched a physical attack on a police sergeant, and as well desecrated his his police uniform.
