Bigscreen Introduces "World's Smallest" VR Headset

Bigscreen, which launched its VR social platform in 2016 with now over 6 million users across Meta Quest and Valve Index, is now introducing its very own “Beyond” virtual reality headset it claims to be the world’s smallest. Weighing in at under 127 grams, compared to rivals such as the popular Oculus Quest 2 (approximately 500 grams) and streamlined HTC Vive Flow (189g), the Bigscreen Beyond is custom-fitted to each customer who are asked to send in face scans prior to purchase.

In terms of specs, the Bigscreen Beyond is equipped with MicroOLED displays combined with advanced pancake optics which deliver 5120 x 2560 pixel resolution, refresh rates of up to 90 Hz, and a 90° × 93° field of view. The headset itself is equipped with stereo microphones, a proximity sensor, replaceable cable, and a USB accessory port. SteamVR tracking is built-in to the device, and video and power is supplied through plugging into a PC.

The light form factor comes with a number of calculated tradeoffs. One being glasses won’t be able to fit under the goggles with custom lenses needing to be purchased if needed. As the goggles are made for a specific user, adjustments are limited, though extra custom-fit cushions which detach easily via the magnetic frame can be ordered for friends and family.

Starting at $999 USD, pre-orders are now open on the Bigscreen website with deliveries set to begin in Q3 this year. An additional audio strap is available for purchase for $99 USD.
