Sony Focuses on Accessibility With “Project Leonardo” Customizable PlayStation 5 Controller Kit

Sony Entertainment has just unveiled its customizable PS5 controller kit — Project Leonardo. Announced at CES, Project Leonardo’s focus is on accessibility, allowing those with disabilities to play games more easily, comfortably, and for longer periods.

So Morimoto, Designer at Sony Interactive Entertainment comments, “Because players can customize Project Leonardo according to their needs, there is no one ‘right’ form factor. We want to empower them to create their own configurations. The controller can also flexibly accept combinations of accessibility accessories to create a unique aesthetic. I am excited that the design will be completed through collaboration with players rather than presenting them with a single form factor.”

Addressing issues like fatigue in holding controllers, button pressing accuracy, and thumb position, Project Leonardo features a split symmetric design where the “north” position can be programmed on the analog sticks for a number of orientations. The kit can also be secured to AMPS mounts and is expandable through four 3.5mm AUX ports. Check out the video below for Sony PlayStation’s introduction to Project Leonardo.
