This 1964 Porsche 904 GTS Could Fetch Up to $2 Million USD at Sotheby’s Auction

Sotheby’s is auctioning another vintage lot of incredible cars in the new year. RM Sotheby’s is selling almost 100 cars in its upcoming 10th annual Paris auction, which features standout vehicles including the 1964 Porsche 904 GTS that highlights the auction.

After the German automaker pulled out of Formula 1 in 1962, Porsche decided to focus on sports cars and the GT competition, which later led to the 904. The car was a successor to the Porsche 718 ad even won several events in its rookie season. The car itself was the first of just 108 examples ever made, excluding a couple of prototype specimens. With only 108 models in existence, it increases the rarity of the 1964 Porsche 904 GTS.

The vehicle for auction features the original factor bodywork and features a mid-mounted, quad-cam and air-cooled opposed four-cylinder engine that gives 260 horsepower. The car comes with race bucket seats fitted with Schroth Racing and Willans multi-point harnesses. Additional add-ons are specific to the model’s era, including the Speedster-style mirrors, vintage Dunlop Racing tires and leather belt and buckle rear clamshell fasteners.

While Sotheby’s has yet to disclose the estimate, similar models which have been expected to sell for $700,000 USD have been sold for approximately $2 million USD at closing. For more information, check out the auction on February 1 at RM Sotheby’s in Paris.

In other automotive news, Tesla stocks have plummeted, losing over $800 billion USD in market value in 2022.
