One of the biggest news to hit the entertainment industry was revealed yesterday when DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn and titular actor, Henry Cavill revealed that he would not be returning to play Superman.
Superman fans have spoken and taken to social media to share their disappointment and in some cases, untethered rage, in regard to Warner Bros. and DC Studios’ most recent decision. The news comes just months after Cavill confirmed his return, even hinting that the next Superman story will be “enormously joyful.” When Black Adam released this year, Dwayne Johnson even revealed that he “fought for years” to bring Henry Cavill back as Superman, but as it turns out, the efforts have been completely negated due to Gunn’s final decision.
Some fans have also noted that it was peculiar that Cavill left The Witcher, which Liam Hemsworth was previously announced to replace the actor for season four. Industry insider pointed out on Twitter, ” That’s so weird that just a month ago Henry Cavill quit a hit franchise to link back up with DC/HBO to become Superman (again) & they’re like ‘naw, never mind.’ That’s kinda f**ked honestly.” Another user wrote, “Henry Cavill loved The Witcher but he clearly wanted the studio to respect the book material and it must have disappointed him to see them mock it. He ended up eventually leaving it behind for Superman only for DC to drop him again within 2 months. This man deserved better.”
Take a look below at how fans have reacted to the news on Twitter so far.

DC makes some of the most questionable moves. Henry was great in the role and actually passionate about the character and a fan himself(which is rare in an actor)Huge miss imo and I’m a marvel guy.

so now that henry cavill left THE WITCHER to be superman, and isn’t ~actually~ going to be superman, can we get THE MAN FROM UNCLE 2 (with, yes, AH recasting) going already? or put him into the next KNIVES OUT? dammit, THE WHITE LOTUS? I only want the best for my fave broad man!

Imagine Marvel making a smart choice and bringing Henry Cavill into the MCU as Captain Britain since it doesn’t look like the Superman thing is gonna work out right now. pic.twitter.com/C5Krj1Y3DO

Warner Brothers is the most idiotic ? company of entertainment you literally had an actor who looks like and a can act like the most comic accurate Superman and you literally wasted him you can’t make this up. #FireJamesGunn #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BringBackZackSnyder pic.twitter.com/QQtRzrl83K

This news hurt and it will for a while.
Seeing #HenryCavill back in the cape meant so much to so many.
I’ll be sad for a while and I’ll do my best to trust the process.#Superman isn’t just a person, he’s a symbol and it will live on.
Henry Cavill, thank you.

The “S” stands for Cavill SHOULD STILL be SUPERMAN… #Superman pic.twitter.com/oQR3ZlfWb2

Now Henry has lost out on playing Geralt with $1million per episode and playing Superman, the role he said means the most to him.
He was pretty much celebrating on stage with Josh Horowitz in front of hundreds, making IG posts, all the while Gunn/WB knew it wasn’t happening. pic.twitter.com/CPLazqv7OF

Really sad for Henry Cavill and how he has been treated during his #Superman run. One solid debut, two lacklustre followups, moustache-gate and a pointless cameo. Both he and the character deserved better.
I wish Cavill had won the 007 role now and avoided this waste of time. pic.twitter.com/GSqknUfg7D

Henry Cavill joins Andrew Garfield as phenomenally cast actors to only ever be used in shit movies for their respective characters.

If i were Henry Cavill right now, I’d be so angry, so embarrassed and probably firing my manager and agency right now. This really could damage the dude’s career, he just dropped Witcher too. Would he of done that if he knew Superman wasn’t coming?

Henry Cavill went from playing both Superman and Geralt to now not playing either moving forward in the span of 1 month

While this news is gutting I totally understand the need to press the reset button on the DC Universe as a whole. #HenryCavill deserved better. We deserved better. And now, it’s up to James Gunn to deliver it. So long #Superman ? https://t.co/gB7HWY99ds

I’ll miss Cavill as he was a great Superman who we didn’t get nearly enough of. But I’m excited to see who takes on this next iteration. Superman deserves to be on the big-screen and his mythology has barely been tapped into in that space. #Superman pic.twitter.com/sE9sYZ46cg

Bummed to see Cavill hang up the cape, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t on board with a Gunn-penned reboot of Superman.
On the other hand, with the current state of WB, I’m trying not to get myself excited about literally anything they’re doing, lest they just write it off.?
