Although The Princess Diaries 3 officially received the green light, Julie Andrews may not be returning to reprise her role as former Queen of Genovia, Clarisse Renaldi.
In a recent interview, the veteran actress shared her doubts of returning to the franchise. “I think we know that it’s probably not going to be possible,” Andrews answered. “It was talked about very shortly after [‘Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement’] came out, but it’s now how many years since then? And I am that much older and Annie [Hathaway] the princess, our queen, is so much older. And I am not sure whether it would float or run.”
Disney confirmed just last month that The Princess Diaries 3 is currently in development, and although Hathaway — who played the lead role of Mia Thermopolis in the first two films — did not officially announce her involvement in the third movie, it seems likely she has signed on. “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work,” she told Entertainment Tonight in October. “We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.”
The Princess Diaries saw Hathaway in her breakout role as Mia, a regular American teenager who turned out to be the heir to the throne of the European country, Genovia. She was guided by her grandmother, Andrews’ Queen Clarisse, on her journey to the Genovian throne.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Westworld is being removed from HBO Max.
