Kanye West Congratulates Kamala Harris on VP Nomination: ‘It’s an Honor to Run Against You’

Kanye West has shared a touching congratulatory message to Kamala Harris, who was recently selected by Joe Biden as his running mate for the 2020 presidential election.

“I know my mom and Kamala Harris would have been friends … congratulations on being the democratic Vice President nominee … all love and respect from the future president,” the 43-year-old rapper and presidential hopeful tweeted on Saturday (Aug. 14). “It’s an honor to run against you.”

This is the first time West has publicly commented on Biden’s pick for VP, which marks the first Black, Asian American woman on a major party presidential ticket. Following the Aug. 11 announcement, numerous artists celebrated Harris’ nomination, including Taylor Swift, John Legend, Katy Perry and Demi Lovato.

West announced his plans to run for president on July 4 and has appeared on ballots in numerous states ever since. Some have questioned whether the rapper, who once supported President Donald Trump, entered the presidential race to thwart Biden’s chances of winning the White House.

West also made headlines over the weekend for a late-night tweet on Friday about a touchy subject from the past: snakes. After a series of posts examining random emojis like the British guardsman and a blue jacket, the rapper wrote that he is retiring his use of the snake emoji.

“Not gonna use a snake emoji cause you know why … I’m not sure if Christians are allowed to use snake emojis,” West captioned a photo of a real-life rattlesnake.

Those who have followed Taylor Swift’s career over the years are fully aware that the singer is forever linked to the legless reptile, particularly in emoji form, when it comes to her feuds.

In 2016, West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, posted a snake-emoji-filled tweet on National Snake Day after the release of the rapper’s controversial single “Famous,” where he raps, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ I made that bitch famous.” West said he gave Swift a head’s up before dropping the song, but the singer’s reps said they issued a message stating she “cautioned” West “about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message” and had never approved being referred to as a “bitch.”
