If you’ve ever wanted to own a piece of rock and roll history, GWS Auctions‘ “Legends of Rock and Roll” auction is about as good of a chance as you’ll get. The 190-lot auction is loaded with ultra-rare goods that belonged to Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Elvis, Amy Winehouse and more — from guitars to shirts, stage outfits and jewelry.
Narrowing down the lots is more than a little challenging, but there are a few items that stand out from the pack. The most notable guitar included is Jimi Hendrix’s Japanese Sunburst, a gift from his father that’s expected to fetch north of $250K USD after last selling for $216K USD in August 2020. One of Kurt Cobain’s acoustic guitars is heading to the auction block as well, and it even comes with a receipt from his estate. Like Hendrix’s guitar, Cobain’s instrument is sure to fetch a handsome sum — the guitar he played in the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” music video sold for $4.5 million USD this May. Other standout instruments include electric guitars from Tom Delonge of Blink-182, Slash’s famed axe guitar, signed, and multiple sets of drums.
The memorabilia extends beyond instruments too. Elvis fanatics will have a chance to bid on the King’s 1976 Harley-Davidson FLH 1200 Electra Glide motorcycle and a diamond ring that’s the very first item to feature his now-famous TCB (Taking Care of Business) motto. Clothing items are plentiful as well: one of Cobain’s flannel shirts will be available, alongside a performance suit worn by Rick James, one of James Brown’s pre-show robes and even the outfit that Amy Winehouse wore to the 2008 Grammy Awards.
Peruse all 190 lots via the GWS Auctions website, and expect bidding to begin at 10 AM EST on October 15.
Elsewhere in the world of music, it’s been announced that Rihanna will headline the Super Bowl LVII halftime show.
