Lewis Capaldi Scores Second No. 1 on Adult Pop Songs Airplay Chart With ‘Before You Go’

Lewis Capaldi collects his second No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Pop Songs radio airplay chart, as “Before You Go” takes over atop the list (dated Aug. 15).

The Scottish singer-songwriter first led with his breakthrough ballad “Someone You Loved” for seven weeks beginning last September.

Capaldi becomes the first solo male to top Adult Pop Songs in his first two visits to the chart in lead roles. Two solo males previously ruled in their first two appearances, including featured turns: John Legend, with his own “All of Me” (2014) and as featured on Meghan Trainor’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” (2016), and Rob Thomas, as featured on Santana’s “Smooth” (1999-2000) and with his own “Lonely No More” (2005).

Among all acts, Capaldi joins Daughtry, fun., Lorde and Maren Morris in having hit No. 1 on Adult Pop Songs in two initial appearances, both in lead roles.

Meanwhile, “Before You Go,” released on Vertigo/Capitol Records, completes the longest climb to No. 1, 34 weeks, among solo males in the history of the Adult Pop Songs chart, which began in Billboard’s pages in March 1996. Morris’ “The Bones” wrapped an overall-record 45-week ascent to the top in April.

The Adult Pop Songs chart measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music/MRC Data, among its reporting panel of over 80 adult top 40 stations.

“I’m not going to question it,” Capaldi told Billboard last year of his rise. “I’m just going to hold on for dear life.”

All charts will update tomorrow (Aug. 11) on Billboard.com.
