Sofia Coppola has written and will direct a forthcoming biopic about Priscilla Presley, as Variety reports. Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown) and Jacob Elordi (Euphoria) are slated to star in the project, which is based on Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis and Me. It’s set to shoot in Toronto later this year, eventually arriving on theater screens in the United States via A24.
Born Priscilla Ann Wagner in 1945, she was 14 when she met the then-24-year-old star during his military service in Germany. The pair married at Las Vegas’ Aladdin Hotel in 1967, and had one daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. Both Priscilla and Lisa Marie have remained heavily involved with the singer’s estate since his death in 1977.
Coppola’s project follows this year’s Baz Luhrmann-directed Elvis biopic, which featured Austin Butler in the titular role and Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla. There’s also an animated Netflix series in the works titled Agent King, which will reportedly follow Elvis on fictitious missions from the United States government while on tour.
