Hollywood Park has named Russell Gordon its vice president and general manager of the 6,000-seat YouTube Theater located at the sprawling, 300-acre sports and entertainment venue in Inglewood, Calif., being developed by Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke. The state-of-the-art theater is a 227,000-sq-ft., three-story indoor venue situated under the same roof canopy as SoFi Stadium and American Airlines Plaza.
Gordon will be responsible for the evaluation, execution and management of events at YouTube Theater and will report to Otto Benedict, senior vice president of campus and facility operations and SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park. Additionally, Gordon will concentrate on developing the intimate venue into a must-play stop for artists, musicians and entertainers alike.
“Russell’s vast network of relationships and deep understanding of the live music industry make him a strong addition to our team,” said Jason Gannon, managing director of SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park. “His leadership and expertise in opening and operating music and entertainment venues will be vital to the development of YouTube Theater’s growth in the marketplace.”
Prior to joining SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park, Gordon served as the vice president of venue operations and special projects for Oak View Group, focused on operational planning for new development projects and corporate guidance for the opening of new arenas, including Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, UBS Arena in New York, Enmarket Arena in Savannah, and Moody Center in Austin.
“OVG couldn’t have been more gracious and I am thrilled to start this new adventure here,” says Gordon, noting his excitement about working with the theater’s new booking partner Live Nation and adding that he believes that the venue is a perfect location for award shows and televised events.
“YouTube Theater is a venue unlike any other, and has already hosted a slate of great concerts and events with a remarkable partner in Live Nation,” he says, adding, “There’s an incredible opportunity to build upon the existing talent here, expand the calendar with awards shows, esports competitions, community gatherings, conferences and more, and really make this the must-play mid-size venue for agents, managers, and artists in Los Angeles.”
Prior to OVG, Gordon served as vp and assistant general manager of Microsoft Theater where he was responsible for all aspects of large-scale event logistics for the numerous concerts, award shows, premieres, and corporate events hosted annually, having been an integral part of the venue since its opening in 2007. Gordon has also worked at Universal Music Group, the former Gibson Amphitheater, and Universal Studio Hollywood.
