‘Moonage Daydream’ Companion Album To Release Alongside Brett Morgen’s David Bowie Film

Moonage Daydream, Brett Morgen’s forthcoming film chronicling the life and genius of the late David Bowie, will arrive with an album under the same moniker.

The companion record, which boasts a total of 43 tracks, spans Bowie’s fifty-year-long discography with a slew of all-new mixes and versions of the legendary artist’s classic hits. Ahead of the album’s debut, Bowie’s estate on Thursday dropped off the lead track, “Modern Love (Moonage Daydream Mix).” Elsewhere, the stacked effort features iconic tracks like “Let’s Dance,” “Heroes” and Starman,” as well as early hits including “V-2 Schneider,” “D.J.,” “Word on a Wing” and more.

Notably, the movie, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, is the first film project to be officially sanctioned by the late musician’s estate. Morgen, whose previously helmed JaneKurt Cobain: Montage of Heck and The Kid Stays in the Picture, also wrote and produced the Bowie movie.

An official description for the Moonage Daydream reads: “Told through sublime, kaleidoscopic, never-before-seen footage, performances and music, Brett Morgen’s feature-length experiential cinematic odyssey explores David Bowie’s creative, musical and spiritual journey. The film is guided by David Bowie’s own narration.”

The album is scheduled to debut on September 16, with a CD version arriving on November 18. Meanwhile, the film will arrive in theaters globally on Friday, September 16.
