Coinbase first debuted its futuristic gashapon machines in New York City at the HBX x Coinbase Pop-Up in December of 2021. The specially customized contraptions are still giving away free prizes but are now located at the newly opened HBX store in NYC’s Chinatown neighborhood. Customers who want to try their luck from the blue-lit machines will be pleased to discover some of Coinbase’s online offerings in addition to nabbing free items that include apparel, accessories, home goods and collectibles from today’s hottest streetwear brands.
Located on HBX’s first floor, the customized vending machines are powered by easy-to-use, digital technologies to offer fun and free goods. First, guests scan a QR code to download the Coinbase app before receiving a coin for the gashapon machines. All machines feature sleek branding that unite HBX and Coinbase without revealing potential prizes for added suspense. After choosing a gashapon machine, visitors can insert their coin and turn the knob to receive a prize card.
After handing your prize card to a retail associate, they will go to retrieve your gifts and take down your name and email. Guests can potentially win prizes specially curated by HBX — pieces from 1017 ALYX 9SM, BRAIN DEAD, C.P. Company and more are all waiting to find its way to a lucky customer’s shopping bag. There are also special assortments of HBX gift cards for up to $250 USD that are included in this free arcade-like experience. Apart from the physical gifts, downloading the Coinbase app in-store will also allow users to redeem $10 USD in Bitcoin.
