“Love Island” super fans, we’re going to let you in on a little secret: you can get your hands on the exact outfits that the Islanders have worn throughout the series. And it’s all for a good cause.
Around 200 million tonnes of clothes end up in landfill every single year in the UK. So, in a bid to beat the fast fashion crisis, “Love Island” committed to dressing its presenter and contestants exclusively in secondhand clothing from eBay. And now, after being worn on screen in Mallorca, some of these preloved items are being resold in a public auction on the show’s sponsor’s site. So, whether you’ve had your head turned by Ekin-Su’s Rat & Boa dress or Indiyah’s gold House of CB dress, you better act fast.
Launching at 8pm on Friday 29 July, exactly 60 items will be up for grabs on the eBay x Love Island auction hub. So, there’s enough choice to ensure that you’re shopping sustainably and buying a piece that will remain your type on paper forever. Every single penny raised will be donated to Oxfam, and the auction is being hosted by preloved seller and secondhand fashion champion Reskinned.
In this auction, you can expect to see a number of coveted designer pieces, from Tasha’s Gorgeous Couture Dress to Davide’s white Gucci shirt. Other items worn by the contestants are from the likes of Fendi, YSL, Dior, Lemon Lunar, Poster Girl, Isabel Marant, Sleeper, and Ralph Lauren. There are also high street brands such as Topshop and H&M thrown into the mix.
This auction is just one part of eBay and Love Island’s mission to make the show and the fashion industry more sustainable. At the start of July, fans were able to purchase the actual clothes that the Islanders wore in the villa. From Ekin-Su’s blue Hervé Leger body con dress and Gemma’s gold sequin House of CB number to Luca’s Luca’s Palm Angels x Smiley Collection Black Bomber and Davide’s Sandro Shirt, everything sold in the name of charity. A second auction was held, selling the clothing of the show’s host Laura Whitmore. With both auctions, the starting prices were set at 99p per item. However, “Love Island” devotees rapidly raised the prices with some generous bids and some items ended up selling for hundreds!
The “Love Island” final is just days away, and the show will be officially over for another year after Monday 1 August’s episode. However, you’ve still got until Wednesday 3 August to bid on your very own piece of “Love Island” memorabilia. Get shopping!
