Nintendo and SEGA have now shared a closer look at the gameplay for Sonic Frontiers during the former’s latest Nintendo Direct event. While we’ve previously already seen Sonic dashing around the open world of Starfall Islands and combating the various enemies across the luscious green terrain, SEGA’s latest showcase also introduces a new zone players can enter called the Cyber Space.
In there, you’ll be presented with the franchise’s more traditional speed-platforming experience, allowing you to earn keys for progression by completing challenges designated for the area. On top of the new game, SEGA will also be releasing an animated series that’ll serve as a prologue, featuring Sonic’s rival-turned-partner Knuckles.
Unfortunately, SEGA has yet to announce a precise release date for the game, but Sonic Frontiers is due to arrive on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch and PC during the holiday season later this year.
In other related news, Ubisoft has unveiled Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, the sequel to 2017’s Kingdom Battle.
