In celebration of the 25th-anniversary of the very original Final Fantasy VII, Square Enix has now unveiled part two of the Remake trilogy. Titled Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the upcoming chapter will pick up where the first installment from 2020, finally giving fans a follow-up to the massive cliffhanger the game ended on. While details revolving around its plot remain scarce at the moment, the first look trailer shows Cloud outside of Midgar journeying across scenic landscapes alongside Sephiroth.
“Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is being designed so that people can enjoy this game whether they know the original game or not,” Square Enix’s creative director Tetsuya Nomura said on Twitter. “In fact, new players might even enjoy starting their Final Fantasy VII journey with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Cloud and his friends embark on a new journey in this game, and I believe that the scenes that they witness after leaving Midgar will give players a fresh, new experience.”
For now, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth doesn’t have a precise release date, but Square Enix will be launching the game as a PS5 exclusive sometime next winter.
Elsewhere in gaming, Overwatch 2 is going free-to-play and removing loot boxes.
