Everett Peck, who created the animated series Duckman and Squirrel Boy, died June 14th of cancer, Deadline reports. He was 71 years old.
His passing was mourned by Jason Alexander, who voiced Eric Tiberius Duckman for four seasons at the same time he starred on Seinfeld. “I have just sadly learned of the passing of Everett Peck, the genius animator and cartoonist who brought Duckman to life,” Alexander wrote on Twitter. “It was an honor to voice his beloved creation and a joy to have known Everett. He was one of a glorious kind. My best to his family & friends.”
A post from Peck’s official Instagram account was brief: “Mr. Peck has left the studio… Oct. 9, 1950 – June 14, 2022.”

Peck created Duckman for a one-off comic book published by Dark Horse in 1990. He adapted the lewd private detective for a critically-beloved series on USA Network, with Duckman earning three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Animated Series during its run from 1994 to 1997. In 1997, it spawned a spin-off video game, Duckman: The Graphic Adventures of a Private Dick.
“I never really got the whole superhero thing anyway,” Peck said in a 2008 interview with Animation Magazine. “I mean it’s easy to fight evil when you’re ripped and have a bunch of super powers and a cool suit. Where’s the fun in that? I liked the idea of taking a skinny duck with a big mouth and no genitalia and throwing him up against the world. Now that’s entertainment!”
Peck followed that series with Squirrel Boy, which ran on Cartoon Network in 2006 and 2007 and spawned a run of six shorts in 2008. During his long career, Peck wrote an episode of Rugrats, printed cartoons in The New Yorker, Playboy, and Time Magazine, and contributed character design to The Real Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters, and Jumanji, as well as Godzilla: The Series.
