Javier Calleja’s enchanting universe serves as a respite from the hustle-and-bustle of daily life. Well-known for creating big-eyed characters that teeter between childlike innocence and dry humor, the Spanish-artist has showcased his work around the globe and descends on the French capital for his first Parisian solo exhibition.
Housed at Almine Rech and curated by writer Saša Bogojev, This Is Your Lucky Day presents a series of canvas paintings alongside a set of smaller paper-based studies. In particular, the exhibition explores a lesser-known facet of the Malaga-based artist’s practice – from never-before-seen works to new color schemes and compositional techniques.
In line with much of his past oeuvre, Calleja seeks to imbue a rejuvenating mood in our post-pandemic world. Check out This Is Your Lucky Day at Almine Rech’s Matignon location in Paris until June 25.
Elsewhere in art, there is a new exhibition that spotlights the architectural drawings of AKIRA.
