I’ve always felt my best in the cocooning layers of autumn—think chunky jumpers, heeled boots and tailored coats—so the warmer months are always a bit of a struggle for me style-wise. I resent buying overtly summery pieces that I’ll only wear for max two months of the year (this is England, after all), and while that does mean I end up wearing the same white T-shirt and jeans on rotation in August, I still prefer to buy things that I can easily adapt for autumn and winter.
So yes, that’s why in the height of summer, I’m already looking ahead and making a mental list of the items I’ll be adding to my cold-weather capsule. I’m a true believer in sticking to your personal style rather than following the trends to a T, so I’ve put together an edit that reflects the staples I’ve worn for years, alongside looks that are newer on the scene.
As a vintage lover, I definitely have a bit of a throwback theme to my shortlist—from ’80s ruffled collars to ’90s leather coats—but I’ve included a mix of second-hand, high-street and high-end to give you lovely lot plenty of options. And of course, these are all items that will look just as good now as they will in three months’ (even 12 months’) time. (At this very moment, I’m wearing my cowboy boots with a white smock dress—just saying.) Scroll down to see and shop my full autumn capsule edit.
