On the heels of announcing their first performance since 2010 yesterday (May 11) as part of Chicago’s annual Riot Fest, the newly reunited Sunny Day Real Estate has been added as a headliner to the second day of Furnace Fest, which takes place over September 23-25 at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama.
Like Riot Fest the prior weekend, Furnace Fest boasts a powerhouse lineup of artists from the hardcore, emo and heavy rock world, including headliners Thrice (performing its 2002 album The Illusion of Safety in full) and Mastodon, as well as Quicksand, Manchester Orchestra, The Descendents, the newly regrouped Louisville emo band Elliott, Cursive, Agnostic Front, New Found Glory, Midtown, Pedro The Lion and Shadows Fall.
As SPIN exclusively revealed in January, Sunny Day Real Estate is touring this fall for the first time in 12 years. The lineup will feature original members Jeremy Enigk, Dan Hoerner and William Goldsmith. Bassist Nate Mendel, who left the band in 1995 to join Foo Fighters, returned for Sunny Day’s 2009-2010 reunion but is not involved in the upcoming shows. Additional dates and details will be announced shortly.
