The Weeknd’s Dawn FM has set a new record for vinyl albums.
The January 2022 album returned to No. 1 on this week’s Top Album Sales chart with a total of 44,000 copies sold in the United States, and almost 34,000 of that sum were vinyl LPs. This marks the largest sales week for an R&B album on vinyl since tracking began in 1991, overtaking Prince’s Welcome 2 America numbers from August 2021.
Dawn FM also jumped to No. 2 on this week’s Billboard 200 chart thanks to the album’s release on vinyl, cassette and box sets. The original 16-track record features guest appearances from Jim Carrey, Tyler, the Creator and Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones and Josh Safdie, along with production work from exec producers Max Martin and Oneohtrix Point Never, Oscar Holter, Calvin Harris and Swedish House Mafia.
Elsewhere in music, the district attorney’s office has released a statement regarding the 56-count indictment involving Young Thug, Gunna and 26 other Young Stoner Life Records associates.
