Lily James attended the 2022 Met Gala “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” for the second instalment of the Costume Institute’s annual fundraiser, under the theme “Gilded Glamour”. James wore a custom gown by Atelier Versace and walked the red carpet with fellow Versace girl Emily Ratajkowski.
James has had quite an active year since starring in one of the most popular series of 2022 “Pam & Tommy”. With her plentiful public appearances has come a whole new era in the star’s red carpet style. As seen at the 2022 Met Gala, James wore a custom Atelier Versace gown that was covered entirely in strings of metallic blue pearls. The gown featured a neutral-coloured tulle lining to give the illusion of a “naked dress” and included asymmetric lines and a keyhole at the bust, which are design details customary to the gilded age (late 1870s to early 1900s). James completed the look with baby blue, satin heeled-sandals, jewellery by Tatiana Verstraeten, sparkling baby-blue Charlotte Tilbury makeup done by Valeria Ferreira, and slicked back hair by Danilo Dixon.
James joined fellow Versace brand ambassadors — Emily Ratajkowski, Gigi Hadid, and Blake Lively — at Donatella Versace’s designer’s table following the red carpet. This marked the star’s second appearance at the Met Gala, with her first being in 2017 at the “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between” exhibition alongside then-boyfriend Matt Smith. For her 2022 appearance, James walked the red carpet with Emily Ratajkowski.
