Take a First Look at Formula E’s Gen3 Racecar

Formula E has officially revealed its all-new Gen3 race car for the first time ahead of this weekend’s Monaco E-Prix.

Arriving in a distinct aerodynamic form inspired by fighter jets, Formula’s Gen3 is the fastest, lightest, and most powerful electric racecar in existence, and the most efficient racing car ever with more than 40% of the energy used within a race produced by regenerative braking.

Its electric motors deliver 470 BHP with a top speed of over 322 kph (200 mph) and its 600kW ultra-high-speed charging capabilities are almost double the power of the most advanced commercial chargers in the world, allowing for speedy power-ups during the race. Throughout the course of the season, performance upgrades will be delivered via software updates to the car’s advanced operating systems, which are optimized specifically for street racing.

As part of Formula E’s sustainability initiatives, Gen3 is also the world’s first net-zero carbon race car in the world’s first net-zero carbon sport. Every aspect of the racecar, from the natural materials used in the tires to the recycled carbon fiber used in bodywork, has been reimagined with eco-conscious life cycle thinking at the core.

“Both technologically and environmentally, Gen3 sets new standards in the sport,” says FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem. “The FIA and Formula E development teams have done a superb job, and I thank them for their hard work on this project. I am delighted to see so many leading manufacturers already signed up to the championship’s next era and await Gen3’s competitive debut in Season 9 with great anticipation.”

Take a look at the concept liveries below, and expect the Gen3 cars to debut in Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in early 2023.
