Matt McCormick has released the first book documenting his lesser-known tattoo practice between the years 2009 and 2017.
Dubbed Head To The Country, the weighty volume spans 396 pages of sketches and finished tattoos primarily made in his studio and on his travels. According to curator Todd Von Ammon, “McCormick’s work as a painter concerns itself with a distinct frame of time: the out-of-joint phantasm of the American experience. This snuffed-out folk-spirit lives on primarily in the death-cycle of advertising and merchandising.”
The Los Angeles-based artist has seen a meteoric rise in recent years for a nostalgic aesthetic that utilizes vintage Americana to ruminate on love, loss and memory. Additionally, McCormick has also nestled into the fashion space with limited releases of similarly curated apparel and home goods through the label, One of These Days.
The softcover book is available to purchase on the artist’s online shop for $50 USD.
Elsewhere in art, Poster House is exhibiting art from the seminal sports film Tokyo Olympiad.
