Mercedes-Maybach Launches Virgil Abloh-Designed S Class and Capsule Collection

Mercedes-Maybach Launches Virgil Abloh-Designed S Class and Capsule Collection

Mercedes–Maybach‘s collaboration with the late Virgil Abloh has continued with the launch of a limited-edition bespoke S-Class and an accompanying capsule collection. The final stage of the collaboration takes inspiration from “Project MAYBACH”, which Abloh unveiled alongside Mercedes-Maybach in late 2021.

The vehicle is strictly limied to just 150 units, and was designed by Abloh before his passing last year. Dubbed the Maybach by Virgil Abloh, the collaborative design is based on a fully-equipped Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S680 and features the “Project MAYBACH” two-tone color pallete of glossy “Obsidian Black” and “Sand.” This color palette continues onto the vehicles interior, including the four seats, steering wheel, doors, lower dashboard, floormats and ceiling. Finishing the design, a special Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logo appears multiple times across the car’s interior.

The unique details also spread to the unique user interface, with an hand-picked visual elements used on the updated version of the Maybach MBUX suite of technologies. Additionally, the car comes with a custom-made wooden box featuring a 1/18 scale replica of the car, the two car keys and a carabiner hook.

For the accompanying capsule collection — designed in collaboration with Off-White™ — continues the car’s color palette with vintage washed T-shirts, half-brushed cotton fleece crewnecks and hoodies, canvas baseball caps and racing gloves in canvas, neoprene and suede all coming in “Sand” with black details.

Launching the latest project, Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said:

“I’m incredibly proud of the work we have created in collaboration with Virgil. From Project Gelaendewagen, which set the benchmark for fashion/automotive collaborations with our iconic G-Class, to “Project MAYBACH” which brought the distinguished Mercedes-Maybach heritage into the future, together with Virgil we truly broke new ground. The limited edition Maybach by Virgil Abloh exemplifies the symbiosis between innovative design and ultimate craftsmanship now available on the road.”

Both the car and the apparel collection are available now, and the collection is available now from Off-White™, Farfetch and Maybach Icons of Luxury online stores.

In other automotive news, Piaggio recently launched a scooter redesigned by Feng Chen Wang.
