2021-22 Is the First Season a LeBron James-led Team Holds a Losing Record Since His Rookie Year

2021-22 Is the First Season a LeBron James-led Team Holds a Losing Record Since His Rookie Year

While LeBron James is undoubtedly one of the best players in the NBA, his current team, the Los Angeles Lakers, have proved to be disappointing all season long. The purple and gold team have recently fallen out of the play-in tournament after its most recent loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.

A Reddit user by the handle BoomBoomSpaceRocket has pointed out that the subpar Lakers have caused James to add one more record to his belt. This marks the first season a King James-led tem has held a negative record since his rookie season. During his first year in the league, James had a 33-46 record when he played, but this season he holds a 31-35. The Lakers currently have a 31-47 record. BoomBoomSpaceRocket writes,

“As you can see, even in his rocky first year as a Laker where the team finished 8 games below .500, he still managed to maintain a 28-27 record. This year could also likely mark his lowest total game won in 18 NBA seasons (fairly likely). If he plays and loses all 5 remaining Lakers games, he will also record the lowest winning % of his career (unlikely).”

The user also notes that his 16-year streak was not the longest in the NBA, but rather Karl Malone managed to achieve a winning record in all 19 seasons he was in the league. Tim Duncan also had a 19-year winning record streak. It remains to be seen if the Lakers will be able to come up from the trenches this season.

Elsewhere in sports, the NFL recently announced that all teams must hire a minority coach for the 2022 season.
