A Closer Look at the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla Circuit Edition

A Closer Look at the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla Circuit Edition

Toyota just revealed its latest creation: the “hardcore” GR Corolla, under the Gazoo Racing division of race-bred street tuning of Toyota’s vehicles. After the official unveiling, HYPEBEAST was invited for a private session with the GR Corolla, and the details become more and more impressive up close.

The GR Corolla was announced with two variations: the Core GR Corolla as well as a Circuit Edition which, for all intents and purposes, stands as a “Launch” model that’s meant to entice and draw in the true enthusiasts who’ll wait and want the very best offering. Toyota’s preview of the Circuit Edition showed off specific enhancements over the Core, some more subtle than others. At the end of the day, the Circuit is the one to get.

First off, the most apparent difference is at the front, with two distinctive hood vents standing out against the Core. Black painted trim – mostly at the front grill and rear lower valence – also helps differentiate the two, but may be overlooked and can be divisive. A stand out exclusive however is the forged carbon roof; during the preview, the audience was stunned at its addition, giving the Circuit a truly hardcore appearance. And a highly aggressive rear wing – absent during this preview session – is far more pronounced against the core shown above, which is subdued and almost an afterthought.

Inside, the differences are subtle, with the main exclusive being the “Morizo”-signed metallic shift knob being the most obvious giveaway. Deviated red stitching on the seats – also absent during the preview – will also help Circuits stand apart, but the rest of the interior will be shared with the Core.

Both Circuit Edition and Core Edition will feature the three-cylinder 1.6L turbocharged engine, with 300 horsepower and 273 lb-ft. of torque, channeled through a six-speed manual transmission. A GR-Four all-wheel drive system drives power to each corner, either through open differentials or optional LSDs front and rear for maximum power transfer to each tire. Along with race-prepped suspension tuning and power-split capability front-to-rear, the GR Corolla could very well be one of the best hot hatchbacks available in our modern day market.

The GR Corolla will begin delivering in 2022, with Circuit Editions arriving later in 2023. Pricing has yet to be announced.

If you’re more into coupes, be sure to discover the heritage and history of its little sibling – the GR86 – as presented by car culture OG Mark Arcenal.
